 Monica Embers, Ph.D., Tulane University

Dr. Embers’ research is centered on three major foci: (1) evaluating antibiotic efficacy against Lyme disease; (2) identifying treatments that can eradicate B. burgdorferi infection; and (3) immunodiagnosis for B. burgdorferi infection and cure. The first research goal is to examine, using xenodiagnosis, the efficacy of antibiotic treatment during disseminated B. burgdorferi infection in the nonhuman primate model of Lyme disease. She also serves on the board of the Bay Area Lyme Foundation.

Kari Nadeau, MD, Ph.D., Stanford University

Dr. Kari Nadeau is one of the nation’s foremost experts in adult and pediatric allergy and asthma. She is the Director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University and is an endowed professor under the Naddisy Family Foundation. She leads a team of specialists spanning areas as diverse as allergy, asthma, and immunology; adult medicine; pediatric medicine; otolaryngology; gastroenterology; pulmonology; genetics; health research and policy, statistics, and informatics; immunity, transplant, and infectious diseases; psychology; pathology; chemical engineering; preventative medicine; and bioengineering.

PJ Utz, MD, Ph.D., Stanford University

Professor Utz is an expert in the study of human and murine autoantibodies and autoantigens, apoptosis signaling pathways, animal models of autoimmunity, proteomics and multiplexed assay development for biomarker discovery. In 2002, he invented the protein microarray for monitoring antibody responses to disease.

Desmond Schatz, MD, University of Florida

Dr Schatz is Professor and Associate Chairman of Pediatrics, Medical Director of the Diabetes Center and Associate Director of the GCRC at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr Schatz’ research has focused on the prediction, natural history, genetics, immunopathogenesis and prevention of Type 1 diabetes, as well as the management of children and adolescents with Type 1 diabetes.

Bruce Buckingham, MD, Stanford University

Dr. Buckingham is a Professor of Pediatrics in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Stanford University. His research focus is in type 1 diabetes mellitus, continuous glucose sensor, and the development of an artificial pancreas. Other research interests include using continuous glucose monitoring and algorithms to control blood glucose levels in intensive care units.

Dr. Maahs is Professor of Pediatrics and Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology and co-director of the Stanford Diabetes Research Center at Stanford University. His research interests are to improve care and prevent complications in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Darrell Wilson, MD, Stanford University

Dr. Wilson is a Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University and PI of the Stanford Center for the NIH-funded Type-1 Diabetes TrialNet group. TrialNet conducts clinical trials directed at preventing or delaying the onset of Type 1 diabetes.

Brynn Levy, M.Sc (Med)., Ph.D., Columbia University

Brynn Levy, M.Sc. (Med), Ph.D. is a Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology at the Columbia University Medical Center. He is also the Medical Director of the Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory of the New York Presbyterian Hospital and a Co-Director of the Division of Personalized Genomic in the Department of Pathology & Cell Biology. Dr. Levy is regarded internationally as an expert in the clinical utility of genomic technologies in reproductive medicine.

Professor Galli is the Mary Hewitt Loveless, MD, Professor at Stanford School of Medicine and the Parker Institute for Allergy and Asthma Research. Dr. Galli’s laboratory seeks to understand mast cell and basophil function and to elucidate the roles of these cells in health and disease.
